The Black Keys have been silent since the release of their latest album in 2014, and some might say they’re skating on thin ice. Turn Blue was and is one of the most hated albums they wrote among their fan base, and personally, I’m not sure why. While I see how Fever might have came of as repetitive, it is a meaningful and poetic song. The same story applies to Weight of Love. Regardless, Lo/Hi sits in a very tough spot, but the duo seems to have played the cards correctly. They seem to be taking their writing style back to the way the wrote albums like Brothers and El Camino back in 2010 and 2011. Lo/Hi very well represents the spirit of the band. While Dan Auerbach is a poet, he is an even better musician paired with Patrick Carney. And the way they write songs has developed to the point where you find instrumentals that you truly can’t find from any other artists. It’s come to the point that lyrics are just icing on the cake with them. This song is likely just the beginning of a bigger album to come sometime in the future. Which many including me are very excited for. Be on the lookout for that when it hits the charts.
