EDEN, more commonly known by his previous identity, The EDEN Project, possibly has one of the saddest stories amongst artists in his genre, as well as some of the best music. His 2016 album I Think You Think Too Much of Me didn’t leave you with a moment to catch your breath. Starring songs like Drugs, rock+roll, and XO. If these songs don’t exist to tell a great story in his life, they exist to tell some of his worst struggles. Drugs is a perfect example, his struggle with drug addiction took seized and destroyed every aspect of his early life. Whether that was a relationship with friends family or a significant other, or that be a path to some kind of career, it all was taken away from him in the blink of an eye. His song rock+roll is based off of a much different, less drastic history, also going back to his early life. However, instead of being about some kind of rough addiction, it refers to the societal feelings about his rather unique (for lack of a better word) writing style. In the song you hear lyrics that illustrate how he wants to be remembered but has no control over whether the future will remember his name. Lyrics like “I could never rock like a Rolling Stone” and “maybe I could play guitar like Hendrix and save the world or end it.” He follows this up with “It’s all I could ever want.” This song well illustrates what he has to settle for after his addiction to drugs, all he can ask for is to be remembered. The lyrics of XO suggest that for that particular relationship, the drugs took hold, and he lost all control. He seemed to be acting as if she meant nothing to him and if anything, had kept her at a distance the entire relationship. Coupled with other very psychedelic songs across all albums, it shows a sad history of unproductive depression and addiction that had ate away at him for so long.
